Amy Smotherman-Burgess is a 1998 graduate of Western Kentucky University¹s Photojournalism program. Amy is returning for her sixteenth year of Mountain Workshop, thirteenth year as a staff volunteer. After interning with the Troy Daily News in Ohio, she spent two years as a photojournalist at the South Bend Tribune.

For the past eleven years Amy has been on staff with the Knoxville News Sentinel in Tennessee. Her work has been recognized by the National Press Photographers Association, the Associated Press, Society of Professional Journalists and Best of Scripps awards. Since moving to Knoxville she married writer Mark Burgess and had her beautiful daughter Avery.
