Giving their best

By Lynne Warren

The Workshops’ coaches bring a stunning wealth of experience, accomplishment, and insight with them. They’re prize-winners and professional leaders; many are instantly recognizable names to most of the participants. They could be a daunting group.

But they’re not. Still photographers, multimedia producers, designers and editors, they come to the Workshops determined to help their students grow. To challenge old assumptions about what they’re capable of, about how to create engaging, valuable stories. And these men and women — coaches in the best sense of the word — will do anything to make that happen. They bring everything they’ve learned and everything they are to the task. They’ll even step far beyond the box of what anybody expects, and draw on every talent they have, to reach their students.

To share a message about seizing all the opportunities the Workshops offer, still shooting coach Mark Osler picked up a guitar, and sang about missed moments during the opening night’s presentations. Later that night, photo editing coach Rodney Curtis crafted a deeply personal essay about why he’s glad to come back to Kentucky every fall.
