Callie
Shell is a contract photographer for Time magazine.
Previously she spent eight years at the White House
as the official photographer for Vice President
Al Gore.
Her work has been published in books, newspapers
and in major news magazines around the world.
Her White House work was exhibited last year at
Visa pour L'Image in Perpignan, France and also
in 2000.
She was also part of the book project and photographic
exhibit, THE WAY HOME: Ending Homelessness in America.
The work was exhibited at the Corcoran Gallery of
Art in Washington, the Los Angeles Library and the
Manchester Craftsmen's Guild in Pittsburgh, Pa.
A solo-exhibition in 1993 at the Silver Eye Center
for Photography in Pittsburgh was titled "From
the Other Side of the Ropes: Behind the scenes at
the White House.
She has received several awards for photography
and education from the National Press Photographers
Association and is a teacher at workshops serving
on the faculty of the Missouri Photo Workshop and
the Corcoran College of Art and Design.
She is frequently a guest lecturer and was a judge
for the 2000 Pictures of the Year Competition.
Before going to the White House, she was a staff
photographer at The Pittsburgh Press. Callie has
also worked for USA Today and the Nashville Tennessean.
Callie was born in Gainesville, Ga., and graduated
from the College of Charleston with a BA in political
science. She lives in Washington, D.C., with her
husband, Vincent J. Musi, also a photographer. |
